The single pins are designed to hold your hook link swivel or loop firmly in place on the high density foam boards that are in the RigSafes. Sometimes you will want to finish off your rigs and tie them to the correct length once you arrive at the venue, and the double pins are designed specifically for this, plus are useful if you are using longer hook links that need to be doubled up to fit on the foam boards. The tops of the pins are designed so that they are very easy to grip.
